Before You Start
Before you can learn to drive you must have applied for and be in receipt of a Provisional Driving Licence. You can apply for the licence either by post (application form D1 available from Post Offices), or on-line You will need a passport style photo and the fee is £50.00. Click here for more details.
You must be aged 17 or over before you can drive a car or begin to learn to drive and you must hold a valid, current provisional driving licence. You can apply for a provisional licence up to 3 months before your 17th birthday. Click here for more details.
As part of the practical driving test, you must be able to read a car number plate from a distance of 20.5metres before you start. If you need to wear glasses to read the numberplate you will be expected to wear glasses for your driving test. Click here for more details.
